Rigoberto Ramos, 24, is in jail in Alexandria, charged with rape. Ramos has been wanted since July.
“The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force has been involved in this case since we identified Mr. Ramos,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the Alexandria Police Department. “They located him in Prince William County , took him into custody and transported him to the jail here.”
The rape occurred on July 2, 2004. A 22-year-old Alexandria woman was assaulted in a daylight attack in Holmes Run Park. According to police, Ramos and another suspect, Jose Daniel Bonilla, raped the victim at gunpoint in the park and fled. Bonilla was arrested the following week but Ramos eluded capture.
Bonilla was scheduled to go to trial earlier this week but that case was continued at the request of the defendant’s attorney. A trial date for Ramos has not been set.
