<sh>Man Charged with Attempted Rape

<bt>Fairfax County Police have charged a Springfield-area man with attempted rape. According to police, Elmer Ferman, of the 6800 block of Floyd Ave., met with a 28-year-old Springfield-area woman in the 6700 block of Cabin John Road on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at around 10:15 a.m. Ferman allegedly asked the woman for sexual favors. She refused his advances, and police say that he attempted to sexually assault her. The suspect subsequently fled the scene and was arrested a short time later. He was charged with one count of attempted rape and is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

<sh>Legislators Host Town Meeting

<bt>Del. Mark Sickles (D-43rd) is hosting a Town Meeting in conjunction with Sen. Toddy Puller (D-36th) and Del. Kristen Amundson (D-44th) Saturday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m., in the South County Government Center, 8350 Richmond Highway. Several guest speakers, including Pierce Homer, deputy secretary of transportation, and Bill Murray, deputy policy director for Gov. Mark Warner (D), will give their opinions on the 2005 General Assembly Session. All are invited to attend.

<sh>Woman Robbed in Kingstowne

<bt>A 58-year-old woman from Anne Arundel County, Md., was robbed of her purse on Tuesday, Jan. 11, around 9 p.m.

According to a Fairfax County Police report, the woman was walking toward the Kohls department store in the 5700 block of Kingstowne Blvd., when she was grabbed from behind and her purse was stolen. No injuries were reported from the incident.

The robber was described as black, about 6 feet tall, wearing a dark jacket with a large hood. He was last seen getting into a white car with Virginia license plates JKL-8828.

<sh>Robbery on Ravensworth Road

<bt>On Monday, Jan. 10, around 9 p.m., a 35-year-old Annandale-area man was robbed in the 4300 block of Ravensworth Road. According to a Fairfax County Police report, the man had just parked his van at Ravensworth Towers in the Annandale area when two armed men accosted him. One of the suspects assaulted him with a stun gun, and the other displayed a handgun. They stole the victim's wallet and fled south on Ravensworth Road. A search of the area did not locate the suspects. The victim refused medical treatment.

The first suspect is described as white, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 155 pounds. He wore a black ski mask, black baseball cap, black coat, black pants and black gloves. The second suspect was described as a black man about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, black baseball cap, black T-shirt, black pants, black coat and black gloves.
