Immanuel Christian School hosts an open house on Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the school, 6915 Braddock Road, Springfield. Participants can observe classes in session, review curriculum and meet teachers and administration. For more information, call 703-941-1220.

Sally Chadbourn's fourth-grade class at Ravensworth School is studying the five regions of Virginia and are asking the community to send postcards from around the state. To participate, send postcards to Ravensworth School, c/o Sally Chadbourn, 5411 Nutting Drive, Springfield VA 22151.

Hayfield Secondary's Peer Mediators Keith Claassen, Stephanie Joseph, Michael McKenzie, Ashley Partain and Alix Smith conducted a training workshop at Newington Forest Elementary for the sixth graders. Topics presented in this interactive workshop included the role of a mediator, active listening skills, the mediation process, and mock role-plays. Richard Essaiw, Mawiyah Scott, Heather Thornton, and Nikki Wilson conducted another training session at Falls Church High School. The group has also partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to promote healthy decision-making. Finally, the peer mediation team conducted a mediation workshop for the middle and high school Summit students and staff. The Summit program is an alternative educational program at Hayfield. The training team included Easton Davis, Michael McKenzie, Paris Spivey, Heather Thornton, Khoa Truong, and Nikki Wilson.

Hayfield Secondary Spanish teacher Michelle Sledge just completed her master’s degree.

Hayfield Secondary students Laura Spurlock, Rachel Hass, Courtney Roberson and Kimberly Healy were selected as “Outstanding Interpretation” winners by the Fairfax County Parent Teacher Association’s “Reflections” program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and provides recognition in four areas: literature, musical composition, photography and the visual arts.
