Getting around Alexandria is now easier than ever by using Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association's new interactive on-line map at www.MapAlexandriaVA.com.
This new computerized map is designed help tourists and residents find information in 12 categories, including: accommodations, art galleries, attractions, business services, dining, events, historic properties, parks and recreation, performing arts, shopping, tours and visitors center.
Developed and hosted by The Map Network, users can click on any category to find a drop-down listing of Points of Interest in each subject area. Simultaneously, directional arrows appear on the map at the precise location. Click on the points of Interest, and a Rolodex card provides further detail. Event dates appear on the map at the location where it will take place.
"Leisure travelers can plan their own itineraries thanks to the level of detail that is provided," said Jo Anne Mitchell, ACVA president and CEO. The map is also available on Alexandria's tourism Web site www.FunSideofthePotomac.com.
Map content will be updated monthly by ACVA staff. "Map Network continually enhances the tools provided on MapAlexandriaVA.com, making it constantly more valuable to the user," she said. This spring ACVA will launch a publishing feature intended to make it easier to create and save customized maps.
"Our goal is to make it easier for our visitors, tourism professionals, and our residents to experience and utilize all that Alexandria has to offer," Mitchell said. "This is one more tool to help us do this."
ACVA will demonstrate the new map during its Jan. 28 Fun Side Forum at the Marriott Residence Inn, 1456 Duke St., from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. The public is invited. To RSVP call 703-838-4200, ext. 203.
