A proposed increase in the green fees at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course were discussed during the Town Council's work session Feb. 15.
After reviewing and assessing green fees and cart rental rates at six nearby golf courses, Gene Fleming, director of golf, is recommending that non-resident green fees and senior/junior rates be increased $2 per round and that resident rates be increased $1 per round on weekdays, $5 per round on Fridays and $5 per round from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
No increase is recommended for cart rentals or the town resident weekday play pass which will remain at $195.
Every March, current fees are evaluated to determine if they are competitive with other courses and whether or not they are generating enough money, combined with other revenues, to assist with general maintenance costs.
Although the golf course is a separate entity that is funded by its user fees, town council approval is required before any decisions, such as improvements or monetary increases, can be made.
If approved, the proposed fees would be as follows:
Non-resident weekday fees: $30 for 18 holes; $23 for nine holes before 6 p.m. and then $16 until close.
Non-resident weekend fees: $40 for 18 holes — $5 discount proposed for 18-hole play after 2 p.m.; $25 for nine holes — restricted to 6 to 7:30 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. After 6 p.m. nine holes will be $18.
Resident weekday fees: $19 for 18 holes; $16 for nine holes.
Resident weekend fees: $25 — $20 after 2 p.m. for 18 holes; $18 for nine holes.
Senior rates: $22 for 18 holes; $16 for nine holes.
Although Fleming has proposed the fee increase, he asked because phase one of the master plan improvements will begin soon, that the current rates remain until the construction is complete.
