<sh>Reston’s Multicultural Festival seeks volunteers

<bt>The Fifth Annual Multicultural Festival will be held at Lake Anne Plaza in mid-September. The Planning Committee is seeking volunteers to serve on the committee and to help out on the day of the festival. Volunteers will serve on committees that select entertainers, crafters and food vendors. They also coordinate logistics, setup and tear down, as well as public relations and other critical aspects of the Festival. Students can earn community service hours for volunteering. <sh>Terraset Raises Money for Tsunami Relief

<bt>Terraset Elementary School Student Council Association sponsored a “Children Helping Children Penny Drive” to benefit the victims of the tsunami in South East Asia. The students raised $1,329.50, to be donated to “Save the Children.”

<sh>South Lakes Partners with the Ice Skating Pavilion for a Fund-raiser

<bt>The Ice Skating Pavilion at Reston Town Center will host a three-day fund-raiser to benefit victims of the tsunami in South East Asia, starting Monday, Feb. 7, through Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Students and faculty from South Lakes High School organized the event, and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to their fund-raising effort. The Washington Capitals mascot, Slapshot, will be at the rink from 5 to 7 p.m. each evening with prizes and entertainment.

<sh>Valentine’s Dance at Reston Community Center

<bt>RCC Hunters Woods will hold a Valentine’s Day social dance Friday, Feb. 11, from 8 p.m. to midnight. The event offers a smoke- and alcohol-free environment, and ballroom and swing dancing. Admission is $5 per person. Call the RCC at 703-476-4500.

<sh>Valentine Gifts for Orphaned College Students

<bt>Oracle Corporation, Reston, and the Orphan Foundation of America (OFA) are teaming up to send 1,200 care packages Feb. 5, to orphans in colleges and universities nationwide. The Care Package Program focuses attention on unadopted foster youth, and their need for post-secondary educational and career opportunities. The packing event will be hosted by Oracle Corporation, 1910 Oracle Way. Call Annalisa Assaadi, the National Events Coordinator for OFA, at 703-821-8669.
