Herndon police responded to a call from the management of SpringHill Suites, located at 138 Spring Street, Saturday, Jan. 29, reporting a party in one of the rented hotel rooms.
Upon arrival police found a group of juveniles consuming alcoholic beverages provided by adults present at the party.
Police charged 13 adults with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, released the juveniles to their parents and released the subjects on summons.
Herndon Police Sgt. Jerry Keys said although the police at the time did not charge any of the juveniles with minor in possession, he said they could file a petition at a later time — although nothing has been filed yet.
Keys also noted that although police found minors consuming alcohol, there was no possession of alcohol charge, but added that too could be charged at a later time.
In addition to the contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge, Keys said positive checks on Federal Immigration and Natural Services (INS) warrants came back on two of the subjects, Ricardo Joel Mejia and Erick Mercado Mereno — both were turned over to federal authorities.
Keys said although some of the subjects charged have been indicated in prior gang involvement and activity, preliminary information suggests this was not a gang-related party.
