Dranesville District Supervisor Joan DuBois did the honors of flicking the switch at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting sponsored by the McLean Chamber of Commerce.
"This year, we promise she won't get shocked," joked Scott Monet, the incoming Chairman of the Board of the McLean Chamber of Commerce, referring to a zap DuBois received at the previous year's tree lighting.
This year's lighting, held Thursday, Dec. 1, at "Tree Island" in downtown McLean, featured a performance by the McLean High School Madrigals.
"We came to see our baby-sitter sing," said Suzanne Goodwin, who brought daughters Taylor, 3, and Carly, 5.
Sitting atop a McLean Fire Department truck, Santa handed out sweets to a line of children.
"I'd like to thank the McLean Fire Department for the help in putting the lights on the tree, because without them we would never have been able to do it."
