<sh>Indecent Exposure in Centreville
<bt>Fairfax County police have charged a 26-year-old Fairfax man with exposing himself to a 28-year-old Centreville woman. He is Aaron Marcus Dugo of 4916 McFarland Drive.
Police say the alleged incident occurred Nov. 6, 2004, around 3 a.m., in Centre Ridge. A woman in the 6100 block of Hoskins Hollow Lane heard knocking at her door and answered it. Police say the man at the door asked for someone who did not live there and then allegedly exposed himself.
An investigation reportedly led detectives to Dugo, who they arrested last Wednesday, April 20, and charged with indecent exposure. He was released from jail the same day on $1,500 bond and has a May 23 court date.
<sh>Wolf Joins Stoplight Fight
<bt>After a three-vehicle crash, last Monday, April 18, on Pleasant Valley Road at Meherrin Drive in Centreville's Virginia Run community, residents and local politicians assembled to decry safety there. They said people keep speeding through this residential area and VDOT needs to take action — such as installing a traffic light there — before someone is killed.
Now Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-10th) is joining the fray and, last Friday, April 22, he sent a letter to VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet, asking VDOT to reconsider erecting a stoplight at that intersection. He said constituents including Del. Tim Hugo (R-40th) and Sen. Ken Cuccinelli (R-37th) have contacted him and told him this intersection is "extremely dangerous."
"On April 20, nearly 50 residents gathered to protest what they feel are unsafe traffic conditions along Pleasant Valley Road," Wolf wrote to Shucet. "During the rally, Del. [Gary] Reese [R-67th] stated that there have been 57 accidents along the road since 2001. This is unacceptable. I believe there is sufficient community support in this instance to justify a stoplight."

<sh>Battlefield Bypass Public Hearing
<bt>A public hearing on the draft environmental impact statement for the proposed Manassas National Battlefield Park Bypass will be held Thursday, May 5, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Battlefield High School in Haymarket. Federal Highway Administration and National Park Service representatives will make a brief presentation at 7 p.m., followed by a public-comment period.
At issue is the closure of Routes 29 and 234 through the park and the relocation of the traffic elsewhere. A preferred route has been selected, but nothing is definite, yet, so public input is still critical in determining the exact path the bypass will take. Citizens may register at the door to speak and will have three minutes each to speak their minds.
To reach Battlefied High, take I-66 west to exit 40-Haymarket; this will be Route 15 north. Travel approximately 2.5 miles and turn right at the traffic light onto Graduation Drive. The school is at 15000 Graduation Drive.
<sh>Childcare Center Name Change
<bt>If all goes as planned, the Boyd School in the Centreville Square Shopping Center will be getting a name change. Minnieland Private Day School is seeking a special permit from Fairfax County to do just that. The childcare center would hold up to 200 children, but would accommodate children from infants to 12 years old, and that age range is slightly younger than that of the Boyd School.
Speaking before the April 19 meeting of the West Fairfax County Citizens Association (WFCCA) Land-Use Committee, Minnieland representative Maynard Syke said the new facility would have 30 employees maximum and would serve nearby Centreville neighborhoods.
Hours of operation would be 5:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. It would also be open from 6-9 a.m. for before-school care and from 3-7 p.m. for after-school programs. The WFCCA unanimously recommended approval of Minnieland's request, subject to the application's receiving a favorable report from county staff.
<sh>Correction
<bt>In Centre View's story, "Clifton Homes Sparkle On Garden Club Tour," April 14-20, 2005, the Red Gables home owned by Travis and Suzi Worsham was actually built in 1907 by Will Richards. The actress Helen Hays used to visit the old Margaret Detweiler home owned by Ruell Fugett, her first cousin.
