On Sunday, April 3, Pamela Daniels gave her debut solo performance for flute and orchestra at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts. She performed Carmen Fantasy for Flute and Orchestra by Bizet/Schnyder with the American Youth Philharmonic (AYP).
Under the direction of conductor Luis Haza, Daniels has performed with the American Youth Philharmonic for the past two years, this year as principal flutist. Only a few weeks before the concert, Daniels was asked to fill in for another flutist who had a family emergency. Daniels played to a receptive crowd who showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.
Daniels is a senior at South Lakes High School and has performed with its wind ensemble, under the direction of Grayson Fore for the past four years. She has also served as the marching band’s award winning drum major for the past three years. Daniels has studied flute privately for four years and currently studies with Judith Lapple, professor of flute at George Mason University. In the Fall, Daniels plans to attend college and major in flute performance.
