A Model Performance

Fairfax High students score big at Model U.N. conference.

Fairfax High School's Model United Nations recently attended the Thomas Jefferson Model United Nations Conference (TECHMUN), a high-quality high school conference. About 600 delegates competed in 12 committees. FHS brought only 13 competitors participating in six of those committees. After two days of debate, Fairfax High swept the boards. Award winners include Arjun Gambhir and Suny Sohi winning third place; Chris Treyz and Jon Asmar winning third place; Phillip Bauserman and Lynn Huang winning second place; Priya Dandawate winning first place; Rami Maarouf and Michael Liarakos winning first place; and Ashly Bauserman and Dalia Mortada winning first place. These were all in separate committees.

At the end of the awards ceremony, FHS was presented with the Secretary General's Award for best school at TECHMUN. Having filled only half of the committees available, FHS was honored to have accomplished this feat. Despite being undermanned, FHS received the Best School Award, which reflects individuals' accomplishments as well as the school's accomplishments as a whole.

Richard French is the faculty sponsor for FHS' Model U.N. team, with Steve Phillips providing assistance.
