Geneva Day School’s kindergartners are probably just modest.
The kindergartners and their siblings mostly wanted to be on the playground outside Sunday even as their parents marveled at the students’ artwork, which was on display throughout the school building as part of the school’s annual Kindergarten Art Show.
A pianist played “Rhapsody in Blue” and other compositions as parents and children drank punch and wandered through the school, decorated floor-to-ceiling with paintings, mobiles, and 3D art.
Art specialist Barbara Korb teaches a curriculum that begins with lessons in the basic elements of art — color, line and shape — and then traces artwork through history from cave painting to Pollock and Calder. As they learn about each artistic period, the students undertake related art projects, from simple prints and decorative letters with a Medieval tinge to more free-form art and sculpture like that of the middle 20th century.
The kindergartner-artists were Cori Alexander, Eli Blair, Sierra Buck, Joseph Bullis, Alexandra Gardilcic, Danova Gardilcic, Katina Gardilcic, Abigail Green, Owen Greene, Nina Hazra, Greta Mann, Joseph Murphy, Grant Neave, Catherine Onsi, Maya Pingho, Dilan Prasad, Wyatt Rigaux, Andrew Rothstein, Gavin Rudman, Lauran Waugh, Leah Wodajo and Nina Yoo.
Geneva Day School is a private, non-profit school operated by Geneva Presbyterian Church. It offers programs for children 2-6, including transitional kindergarten and all-day kindergarten.
