The Paladin Program at Chesterbrook Academy is accepting registration for the Paladin Academic Summer Camp, to be held at two Chesterbrook locations: 46100 Woodshire Drive, Sterling and 3753 Centerview Drive, Chantilly. For students in need of educational intervention, enrichment, and/or retention of previously learned concepts. It is a highly structured program with a very small student-to-teacher ratio. Shenandoah UniversityÕs Northern Virginia Campus in Leesburg is seeking nominations for its Teacher of the Year award. The award was created six years ago to recognize quality teaching in Loudoun County. The nomination process concludes on April 12. All finalists will be recognized at a reception and the winner will be announced at a Loudoun County School Board meeting in May 2005.
To be eligible, nominees must be full-time teachers in Loudoun County in a specialized area, such as special education, art, music, physical education, drama, English as a Second Language or gifted and talented. Nominees may work at any grade level Ñ elementary, middle or high school Ñ but must have at least five years of teaching experience in Loudoun County.
A screening committee from Shenandoah will select the winner based on his or her commitment to students and teaching, subject knowledge and teaching philosophy, ability to manage and monitor student learning as well as service to the community. The screening committee is looking for nominations that demonstrate the teacherÕs impact on students. Letters of recommendation from peers, parents and students will be of particular importance in the selection process.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office will hold the 17th Annual McGruff Safety Camps June 27-July 1, July 11-15 and July 18-22. All camps run Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-noon.
The camps, which will be held at Evergreen Mill Elementary in Leesburg, allow children who are entering kindergarten and first grade to learn various topics on safety including fire safety, bicycle safety and 9-1-1 emergencies. Throughout the week children in the camp will have an opportunity to meet law enforcement officers, K-9 officers, plus a
chance to see law enforcement and fire/rescue vehicles firsthand.
Registration forms are available at Evergreen Mill Elementary School, 491 Evergreen Mill Road, Leesburg, the Sheriff's Office Administration building at 39 Catoctin Circle in Leesburg and the Sheriff's Office Ashburn substation at 45299 Research Place, Suite 100.
There is no registration fee, but donations are accepted. The camps are for children entering kindergarten and first grade and children must be 5 years old by June 1.
Galilee United Methodist Church will be offering a Performing Arts Day Camp for rising second-sixth graders, July 25-29, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The final performance will be 7 p.m. Friday evening. Directed by The Leavening Agency, a Christian organization specializing in creative children's programming in churches and schools. There are no auditions and every participant is encouraged to choose what he or she wants to do: music: singing, hand chimes and rhythm instruments; performance skills: drama and acting; choreography: movement and sign language; stagecraft: scenery painting. Ashburn Presbyterian Church is hosting its sixth annual Christian Musical Theatre Camp for youth between the ages of 11 and 16, from July 25-29. Each day includes drama and singing exercises, scripture study and rehearsing songs and acting parts in preparation for a live, comedic, dinner-theatre performance Friday night, July 29.
