The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia and Safeway Stores are teaming up for a book drive throughout Northern Virginia. The region's 35 Safeway stores will collect new and gently used books from Sept. 9-30 to be sold at the LCNV's annual used book sale, to be held Oct. 29-31 at the James Lee Community Center in Falls Church. Teen Entertainment Venue & Competition. The First Night Alexandria Teen Task Force, sponsored by DeVry University, has announced official audition dates, times and locations. The Teen Talent Venue is part of the New Year's Eve citywide celebration of First Night Alexandria. Auditions for youth ages 13 and older will be held on the following dates: Monday, Oct. 4, 6:15 -7:15 p.m., at Bishop Ireton High School and Tuesday, Oct. 12, 4:40-5:30 p.m., at TC Williams High School. Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill, 3606 Seminary Road, will hold its 11th Annual Pumpkin Sale from Oct. 3 - 31, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily. This fund-raiser will benefit the Outreach ministries supported by Immanuel Church, including Network Preschool, ALIVE, Carpenter's Shelter, and many more. It also will benefit the Navajo Indians of Northern New Mexico, where the pumpkins are grown on irrigated tribal lands. Pumpkins are priced by size, ranging from $1-$15.
