United Community Ministries' Bryant Early Learning (BEL) Center is currently enrolling children aged 2 1/2. The BEL Center is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Children and Families and collaborates with the Office for Children in order to obtain child care assistance for families in need. Building Blocks Music featuring Kindermusik. An internationally respected group music and movement class for ages newborn to 7 years. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on S. Kings Highway. Guitar and voice instruction is available to youths through adults. Adult Art Workshops. September through December. ECHOLAND ARTS workshops explore the history, meaning, and use of arts from around the world. Students of all ages are given a relaxing, supportive environment in which to explore their own creative energy. Projects include mandalas, bookmaking, masks, candles, prayer flags and malas. Book Art. In this ongoing workshop, students learn basic bookbinding techniques such as portfolio construction, pamphlet binding and accordion books. Students will be working on book projects each week, exploring the endless possibilities of content, form, and function to incorporate into their own unique book of art. Children's Art Workshops. ECHOLAND ARTS workshops explore the history, meaning and use of arts from around the world. Docent Training. The fall docent training class at the Carlyle House Historic Park in Old Town Alexandria, 121 N. Fairfax St. The museum docent candidates will meet one Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will receive a complimentary lunch. Docents at the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority's Carlyle House Historic Park lead tours and assist with school programs at the 18th-century mansion. Benefits also include free parking while working, a 10 percent discount in the Carlyle House museum gift shop, free admission for guests accompanied by the volunteer and opportunities to participate in special events.

Docents attend the training session, follow several house tours and study the docent manual, then compose their own tours. These volunteers work one weekend shift or two weekday shifts monthly, although more time may be scheduled. Fall ESL Classes. The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia is offering English as a second language classes in three Alexandria locations.
