"The Time of Your Life." This 1939 play by William Saroyan will open the 10th season of the American Century Theater in a production directed by Terry Kester. The production will run from Sept. 9 through Oct. 9. Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with 2:30 matinees on Sept. 19 and Oct. 2, 3 and 9. Obey, a new show from Improv Nation, will run at 8 p.m., Sundays through Oct. 17, at Whitlow's on Wilson, 2854 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Tickets $5. Showtime is 8 p.m.; no reservation required. In Obey, the audience commands the entire performance by yelling out suggestions. Improv Nation is one of three ensembles within Washington Improv Theater (WIT).
"Host and Guest." The Synetic Theater production returns from a New York run to play at the Rosslyn Spectrum, 1611 N. Kent St., Arlington, from Sept. 3- Oct. 16. The play will be staged Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. It is a play by Roland Reed based on an epic poem from the Republic of Georgia, about friendship and the devastating effects of religious prejudice. Miniature Golf and Batting Cage. The deluxe miniature golf course and the batting cage at the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority's Upton Hill Regional Park, 6060 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, are open for play from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays; from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays; from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through September and October.
Fees are $5.50 per round for an adult, age 13 or older; $4.50 per senior 60 or older and per junior, age 12 or younger; and $2 per replay round. Mini-golf birthday party packages also are available. Book Drive. Safeway stores throughout Northern Virginia will hold an in store book drive to support he Literacy Council of Northern Virginia through Sept. 30. All 35 of the areas stores will collect new and gently used books to be sold at a book sale. Proceeds will benefit LCNV's adult literacy programs.
