<sh>Blind Group Honors Petersen
<bt>Del. Chap Petersen (D-37th) was recognized as a "Friend of the Blind" on Saturday, Sept. 4, by the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) at its annual picnic for members of local area chapters. Officers of the organization recognized Petersen for his efforts in securing passage of HB 798, a legislation authorizing funding for "telephonic reading services" to the blind and visually impaired throughout Virginia.
<sh>Book Drive for Literacy
<bt>Safeway stores throughout Northern Virginia are conducting an in-store book drive from Sept. 9-30, to support the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia. Each of the area's 35 Safeway stores will collect new and gently used books to be sold at LCNB's annual used book sales. Proceeds will benefit LCNB's adult literacy program.
