Two Men Stabbed
<bt>A 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were stabbed Sunday, Aug. 29. According to Fairfax County Police, around 7:20 p.m. The two victims, residents of Herndon and Reston, were exiting a local restaurant in the 2100 block of Centreville Road south of the Toll Road, when they were approached by a group of seven men and three women. The group, some of whom displayed knives, attacked the two victims, who were both stabbed in the upper body.
One victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and the other was transported to Reston Hospital Center, both with non-life-threatening injuries.
Bud Walker, Fairfax County Police Officer, said there was no evidence that the stabbing was gang related, although the police have not ruled it out as a possibility.
Walker said detectives and patrol units will canvass the area looking for witnesses, as well as talk to sources in the area to find more information.
One suspect was described as an Hispanic man, wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans. A second suspect was described as an Hispanic man, with a goatee, wearing a white tank-top, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.

<sh>POW/MIA Recognition Day
<bt>The Herndon Town Council, in cooperation with the American Legion Post 184, will observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day at its public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Across the country, federal, state and local governments, and private organizations honor the courage of the Americans who have been taken prisoners of war or who are still missing in action and unaccounted for on National POW/MIA Recognition Day and remember the challenges and heartache endured by their families.
The Town Council will present a resolution recognizing POW/MIA Day to representatives from American Legion Post 184 in appreciation of the post's efforts to ensure that prisoners of war and other veterans that remain missing are not forgotten. A POW/MIA exhibit will be on display in the lobby of the Herndon Council Chambers that will include this year's POW/MIA poster, the POW/MIA flag, a "missing person" chair, and listings of missing veterans from Virginia. The Herndon Council Chambers are located at 765 Lynn St.
<sh>Jazz and Wine Festival
<bt>The 16th annual Labor Day Jazz and Wine Festival will be held Sept. 6, from noon-6 p.m., in and around the Herndon Municipal Center complex at 777 Lynn St. in historic downtown. The festival will include musical performances throughout the afternoon offering a wide range of styles and influences including Latin jazz, American jazz, blues, boogie, swing and new world jazz.
In addition to the music, wines from across Virginia will be offered for tasting and purchase. Some of the wineries that will be present include, Barboursville Vineyards, Breaux Vineyards Ltd., Farfelu Vineyards, Horton Cellars, Rebec Vineyards, Tarara Vineyard and Winery, Windham Winery and The Williamsburg Winery.
The festival will also host food vendors and a selection of artists and craftsmen that will be selling a variety of items including watercolor paintings, pen and ink drawings, jewelry and more.
Performances begin at noon with the Latin Jazz All Stars followed by Nicki Gonzalaz and Trio Balanca at 1:30 p.m., then David Bach from 3-4 p.m., and lastly Deanna Bogart from 4:40-6 p.m.
The festival is produced by the Town of Herndon Parks and Recreation Department and the Council for the Arts of Herndon and is cosponsored by Smooth Jazz 105.9, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and Gutter Helmet Systems.

<sh>Annual Car Show
<bt>On Sept. 12, the Herndon Police and the Herndon Police Citizen Support Team (HPCST) will host the 4th annual Car Show on Lynn and Center streets in the area of the Herndon Municipal Center. The competition is open to owners of all years, makes and models, and includes a separate motorcycle competition. All proceeds from the event will benefit the HPCST.
Admission is free to the public and participants may pre-register or pay at the gate. The gates open at 8 a.m. on show day, with the show scheduled to start at 10 a.m. The first 100 registrants receive a dash plaque commemorating this year's event. Awards for participants will include Best in Class, Class Winners, Chief's Choice and Best in Show.
