Scholarship Fund of Alexandria Telethon. Nine teams will compete to raise funds for the Scholarship Fund, which helps T.C. Williams grads to afford college. The event will be broadcast live from 4-9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24 on Comcast Channel 69 in the City of Alexandria; on-air hosts will include former Alexandria Mayor Kerry Donley and Alexandria resident Julie Carey, of NBC 4. Matthew Mullarky, son of Ruth and John Mullarky of Alexandria, was recently selected as a winner in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas High School Scholarship competition. Two scholarships were awarded from over 200 applicants. Mullarky is a 2003 graduate of St. Rita School in Alexandria.
The scholarship application required applicants to write an essay of approximately 250-300 words typed and double spaced entitle "What does being Catholic mean to me?" The applicants submitted recommendations from their pastor, a teacher and a third letter from a non relative who can attest to the candidates' character.
