Floats, as it happens, do not float. As a result, Friday's rains moved Oakton High School's Homecoming parade indoors. The seniors won the competition with a lively '80s-themed dance routine.
During half-time festivities at Friday night's football game, Christina Shumway was crowned Queen and Cody Grimm was named King. Cody, who plays on the football team, was in the locker room with his teammates when the announcement was made. His parents accepted the crown on his behalf.
The other members of the Homecoming court were seniors Laura Brown, Lauren Chuday, Jenna Di Lucente, Stewi Downer, Heather LeMunyon, Whitney Osborne, Kara Peterman, Kaitlin Powers, Laura Villarreal, Kathryn Welsh, Thomas Bakke, Nicholas Capporossi, Joseph Drewer, Patrick Drewer, Frank Fu, Anthony Haro, Christopher Metz, William Morin, Thomas Olszewski and Richard Vigilant.
Junior members of the court were Julia Burke, Katherine Gillooly, Hannah Prince, Rachel Stair, Elizabeth Sweeney, Stephen Dolenc, Gabriel Dolenc, Jason James, Bradley Rhodes and Jared Ruppert.
Oakton won the game over Chantilly, 35-12.
