Headmaster Peter Quinn of Wakefield School in The Plains has announced that Emily Pierce of Gainesville, and Lindsay Graves of Broad Run, have been named Commended Students in the 2005 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than one million students who entered the 2005 competition by taking the 2003 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Lindsay Graves is the daughter of Donna Rice of Broad Run and Stuart Graves of Fairfax Station.
Cathy Runge, a Shenandoah University student from Lovettsville, will debut her new documentary "Young Fury" Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 8:30 p.m., in the Ruebush Hall room 128. The event is open and free to the public. The on-hour documentary is a portrait of the Young Danish String Quartet, a group made up of men 19-21 who traveled to Winchester to perform in the "Shenandoah Performs," music festival in June. Shenandoah University is located at 1460 University Drive, Winchester.
