On Nov. 13, Cub Scout Pack 1509 collected more than 1,500 pounds of donated food through the annual Scouting for Food Program. The Pack donated all of the food to the food pantry at Rising Hope United Methodist Mission Church. All of the food collected will go to help people in need in the Mount Vernon community. The collection was part of an annual Boy Scout effort to collect food for needy families before Thanksgiving.
The Lorton Community Action Center Youth Activities Group and the Engleside Leo Club combined their resources for the Nov. 17 Lorton Community Park Cleanup project. Twenty-one members of the two youth groups, together with volunteers from the Mason Neck/Lorton community participated in collecting the litter from the Fairfax County Park behind the Lorton Community Library. Twelve bags of trash were collected by the volunteers.
The Mason Neck Lions Club sponsored the cleanup project and donated refreshments and Certificates of Achievement to each participant.
