Providence Elementary had a fall Harvest Hoedown on Friday, Oct. 22, and it was a great success. The PTA raised a lot of money for the school. It was a good fund-raiser and a positive way to welcome all of the newcomers to Providence.
There were dance contests, raffle baskets and character pumpkin contests. Each classroom decorated a pumpkin, portraying their favorite book character. The pumpkins were displayed in the school all week, and on Friday, Peggy Kenney, the assistant principal, judged them. There were several winning categories like sweetest, best use of materials and best show.
The fun didn't stop there. There was also dancing to music from two DJs. Clara Medrano, Shannon Spivey and Stuart Farmer won the dance contests. Ricky Camacho, a sixth grader at Providence, said: "The dancing was fun. I want to have another hoedown."
Providence panthers like to get together for events like this so that they can have fun together, make new friends and raise money for the school. Thanks to the PTA for all of the hard work in putting this "shindig" together.
