Junior Girl Scouts Collect Items for Armed Forces

<bt>Members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 1656 from Terra Centre have put together a drop box for collecting items for sick and wounded armed forces personnel recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The drop box is located at The UPS Store at 5765-F Burke Centre Parkway in Burke, near the Kohl's department store. Donations can be left at The UPS Store Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The following items can be dropped off until June 8: telephone cards of at least 30 minutes; rolling luggage (small) totes or carry-ons; individually wrapped snacks; magazines (new or gently used); notepads; pens; playing cards and games; and sweat pants and shirts (all sizes). A representative of the American Red Cross has indicated that the telephone cards are especially needed, as the soldiers miss their family and friends.

Members of Troop 1656 plan to deliver these items to Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Flag Day, June 14, as part of their Bronze Award project.
