<sh>Sculpture Stolen from Arts Festival
<bt>A man stole a life-sized sculpture of a woman that was on display at the Reston Town Center Sunday. Around 2:30 p.m., a 57-year-old Wisconsin man had several life-sized human sculptures, made of polyester and resin, on display. One of the sculptures, a white female wearing a white and black top and black shorts was taken out of the display area by an unknown man. Several people saw the man carry the sculpture, but no one realized it was being stolen. The suspect was last seen near Market Street and Explorer Street. The victim called police when he discovered the theft and several officers including the Fairfax County Police helicopter assisted in the search. The suspect was described as white, in his forties or fifties, five feet six inches tall, and weighing 130 pounds. He had short blond and grey hair and he was last seen wearing a light shirt and dark pants. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 703-691-2131 or Crime Solvers at 800-673-2777.
<sh>RCC’s Plans on Hold
<bt>The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a plan by the Reston Community Center’s Board of Governors to implement a model of electing its members by a mailed-out ballot, in which one person gets one vote. However, after a motion by Reston’s representative to the county board, Supervisor Cathy Hudgins (D-Hunter Mill), the plans will be put on hold for at least a year. Hudgins said she is concerned that mailed-out ballots cannot be sufficiently verified. "RCC should retain its current process for its preference poll," she said. This fall, Reston residents will elect members to the RCC board by a preference poll on a designated day by casting a ballot at specified polling locations.
