On May 6, Ashburn's Boy Scout Troop 1154 was chosen to perform the Honor Guard portion of the Space Day Celebration at the new Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center in Chantilly. Held annually since 1997, the Space Day Educational Initiative is an effort to promote science, math, technology, and engineering education through young people's enthusiasm. Upon completion of the ceremony, the troop performed experiments that were similar to ones done by Dr. Don Pettitt on the International Space Station.The activity was sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
<sh>Michael, Kozikowski Engaged
<bt>Mr. and Mrs. James Michael of Reston have announced the engagement of their daughter, Erin Elizabeth Michael, to Kevin Kozikowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O'Connell of Clemmons, N.C.
Erin Michael, a graduate of South Lakes High School, holds a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Virginia Tech and a master's of education from George Mason University. She is a health and physical education teacher in the Loudoun County school system.
Kozikowski, a special education teacher in the Loudoun County school system, is a graduate of Loudoun Conty High School. The recipient of a bachelor's degree in the administration of justice from George Mason University, he is now furthering his studies at Old Dominion University.
A June 2005 wedding is planned.
<sh>Grafton, Romedy Engaged
<bt>Mr. and Mrs. W. Robert Grafton of Potomac, Md. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Katherine Lynn Grafton to Brooks Neil Romedy, son of June Romedy and the late Col. C.S. Romedy. Grafton, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, teaches first grade in Sterling. Romedy, also a graduate of the University of South Carolina, is a systems analyst in Herndon. The couple became engaged Dec. 29, 2003 in Key West, Fla. A July wedding is planned.
James E. Rich was unanimously re-elected as chairman of the Tenth District Republican Committee at its annual convention held at Winchester's Handley High School on May 15. Rich, a resident of The Plains will be serving his seventh term as chairman and will lead the Republican Committee for two more years. Rich also continues to serve on the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia, and was also elected to represent the Tenth District at the Republican National Convention, scheduled to be held in New York this August. Dorothy Simpson of Front Royal was elected to represent the Republican Party with her vote as Elector to the Electoral College.The Tenth District is composed of representatives from Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier Frederick, Loudoun, Prince William, Warren Counties and the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park and Winchester.
<lst>Emma Greeson, a 2000 graduate of Loudoun County High School, has been invited to join academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa. Greeson, of Leesburg, will graduate this year from the University of Virginia with a double major in Spanish and cognitive science. Her parents are Elizabeth Pendzich and Thomas Greeson.
