Farmers' Market Springs to Life

The Mount Vernon Farmers' Market began its 19th year Tuesday morning under clear, bright skies, but autumn -like temperatures.

The market is open every Tuesday, 8 a.m. to noon, from May through the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, in the parking lot of the Sherwood Regional Library, 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, under the watchful eye of manager Gil McCutchen. On opening day he was joined by Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerald "Gerry" Hyland.

"Several of the vendors have been here since the beginning," McCutchen said .

One of those is the Twin Springs Fruit Farm, the first in a block-long line of white tent covers under which customers can find anything from fruits and vegetables, to flowering plants, to homemade breads and muffins. There is even professional advice available from two master gardening groups.
