John Vicinski, 44, of Poplar Tree Estates in Chantilly has just published his first children's book, "Daddy's Girl." The focus of the book is the special bond that exists between fathers and daughters.
"My inspiration was my two daughters," said Vicinski, a civil engineer at Alpha Corp. in Sterling. "The father/daughter relationship is very special. Your dad is there throughout your whole life."
The book chronicles a father/daughter relationship from birth to death and all the milestones in between — going to elementary school, college, getting married, having a baby.
"If I had to put a message out there, it would be to enjoy your children — they grow up too fast. And spend as much time with them as possible," he said.
Vicinski and his wife Beth have two daughters, Erin, 13, an eighth-grader at Rocky Run Middle; and Lauren, 9, a third-grader at Poplar Tree Elementary; plus a son, Johnny, 11, a Poplar Tree fifth-grader.
The book took just one day to write and about a year to get published through Elderberry Press in Oakland, Ore. The illustrator was Karen Salee.
Said Vicinski: "I've got about five more [books] I've almost completed." One is a father/son relationship; I have a couple of rhyming books and fun books for little kids.
He plans on giving the proceeds from his current book to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, through its charity, Angel Kisses. In his spare time, he coaches little league for CYA baseball and volunteers at Poplar Tree "whenever [he] can."
The book sells for $14.95 and is available on amazon.com and booksurge.com. Visit www.elderberrypress.com or call the order hotline at 800-431-1579.
