The sky was as bright as the new sign that was installed at the entrance to the Stratford Landing Recreation Association. Last Saturday, a large group of people came to celebrate as Brinitzer Way finally became a reality.
Jay Spiegel, Spiegel's Landing, recapped the process that led to this day, saying that they wanted to "re-name the street that led to the pool that Peter led for more than three decades."
Rick Edgerton, president of the Stratford Landing, handed a duplicate of the sign to Brinitzer and introduced Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland.
Hyland said, "Pete did have a way of looking around and seeing what needed to be done. This is a small token and will serve as a reminder of a person who has made a difference."
Brinitzer said that the sign was a "very nice little thing." He thought that honors like these were reserved for people who had passed on and hoped that it wasn't a sign of things to come. "I appreciate it very much," he said.
Spiegel said that many of the people returned to the Brinitzer home for a reception after the dedication. "It was a wonderful community event. It was great to see Pete sitting at the dining room table receiving visitors."
