<lst>The following incidents were reported to the West Springfield district station of the Fairfax County Police Department.
<cal1>ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTER
<cal2>Wards Grove Circle at Wooden Spoon Court. A man wrecked a car and then fought with rescue personnel when they tried to treat a child who was injured in the crash. The crash happened on Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. near the intersection of Wards Grove Circle and Wooden Spoon Court in the Burke area. Ronnell Frederick Martin, 33, of the 5800 block of Wood Poppy Court in the Burke area, was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant eastbound on Wards Grove Circle at a high rate of speed. Martin struck a parked car, crossed the oncoming traffic lane, struck a mailbox and then a tree. A 5-year-old child who was riding in the front passenger's seat of the car received minor injuries and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to treat him. As emergency workers administered treatment, Martin interfered several times. When police arrived, Martin became more unruly, continued to interfere with medical treatment and refused police orders to stop. An officer tried to place Martin under arrest and he struck the officer in the face several times. The officer sprayed Martin with pepper spray to no avail. Several firefighters assisted with placing Martin under arrest and Martin assaulted a firefighter. A friend of Martin's, 38-year-old William E Davis of the 110 block of Cliff Circle in Stafford, who was at the scene, became agitated and threatened to get a gun from his Jeep Cherokee. Davis went to his SUV and began rummaging through the contents. Other officers arrived and took him into custody without further incident. Both men were taken to the Adult Detention Center. Davis was charged with disorderly conduct. Martin was charged with felony assault on a police officer, felony assault on a firefighter, obstructing rescue workers, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He was held in lieu of an $8,500 bond. Both the police officer and the firefighter received minor head and facial injuries.
