While the final numbers are still incomplete, it's safe to say literally thousands of festival-goers enjoyed the 23rd Annual Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival at Oronoco Bay Park June 18-20.
In years past, the festival has attracted upwards of 80,000 people. The festival is the largest outdoor fundraiser sponsored by the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross. Funds raised provides a much needed source of revenue for the chapter, helping fund community safety education programs and disaster relief efforts.
While Friday's opening night was the most humid of the three days, by Father's Day on Sunday, picture-perfect weather greeted the crowds.
Culminating Saturday's events was a spectacular fireworks display launched from a barge in the Potomac River.
Three tall ships anchored along the shoreline: The Schooner Sultana, Kalmar Nyckel and the Gazela philadelphia.
