Police Seek Assistance in Finding Killer of Local Woman

Alexandria police are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the killer of Alisha “Lisa” Fonte Johnson.

Johnson disappeared from the Arlandria neighborhood of Alexandria in July, 1996. She left her home on N. Alfred Street on July 26 to spend time with friends. On July 28, she left a friend’s apartment on Four Mile Road to run an errand. She was never seen again.

“Her family reported her missing shortly after her disappearance and we got several leads which turned out to be wrong,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the Alexandria Police Department.

On Aug. 4, 1996, a resident of Marshall, Va, in Faquier County, discovered a leg. Police dogs found a second leg later that week. Although teams searched a four square mile area, no other body parts were found.

In November, 2002, Alexandria detectives were notified that a DNA match showed the legs to be Johnson’s. Since then, detectives from Alexandria and Faquier County have been working to identify her killer.

“We believe that there are people in Alexandria who might know something,” Bertsch said. “Lisa Johnson lived here for most of her life and still has family and friends in the city. We are hoping that someone will come forward with information that will help us identify the killer.”

Anyone with information about this case should contact Alexandria police at 703-838-4711 or Faquier County Sheriff’s deputies at 540-347-6850.
