<sh>Shannon Conducts Community Hours

<bt>Del. Steve Shannon (D-35th) is hosting community hours the next two weekends. Constituents of the 35th District may address Shannon on any issues, questions or concerns. No appointment is required. The community hours are offered on Saturdays, June 12 and 17, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Patrick Henry Library, 101 Maple Ave. E,. in Vienna. <sh>Request for Yard Sale Items

<bt>The Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is collecting donations of new or gently used, sellable items for a yard sale, which will take place on Saturday, June 26, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Station 13, 2148 Gallows Road, Dunn Loring. Also, the department is renting table space for $15 to people who are interested in selling their own items at the sale. <sh>General Assembly Honors Vienna Youth Football

<bt>Citizens with the Vienna Youth Football team The Raiders were present at Council Chambers on Monday, June 7, as Del. Steve Shannon (D-35th) presented a House Resolution honoring their win of a national championship last fall.

The resolution, which was read during the Vienna Town Council meeting and had passed both the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate, congratulates The Vienna Raiders for winning the National Youth Football Championship in Daytona, Fla., during last Thanksgiving weekend, beating out teams from Georgia and Florida.

The Vienna Raiders, whose team members range from 7 to 9, had also been undefeated and won the Fairfax County championship.

The resolution recognized the team as well as coach David Hall and Mark Meanna for shepherding the team through a winning season.

<sh>Nottoway Park Hearing Set

<bt>The Fairfax County Park Authority is conducting a public hearing on Tuesday, June 22, at 7 p.m., at Oakton High School, 2900 Sutton Road, Vienna. At the hearing, Park Authority staff will present a proposal for the Master Plan Revision for Nottoway Park, a 90-acre site located at 9537 Courthouse Road in Vienna.

The proposal includes guidance for the continued use of the Hunter House and community gardens, preservation of cultural resources on-site, replacement of one lighted diamond field with one lighted rectangular field, an additional rest-room facility, an improved playground, vehicle circulation improvements, additional picnic shelters, and additional lighted parking.

The plan is available for review at the Fairfax County Park Authority, Herrity Building, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 421, Fairfax, or on the Park Authority Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks.

<sh>Government Contractor Nominations Sought

<bt>Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards seeks nominations for its second annual event. Nomination season closes on Wednesday, June 30. The awards ceremony takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner. Award categories include Contractor of the Year (three awards, stratified by gross annual revenue); Executive of the Year (three awards, stratified by gross annual revenue); and Public Sector Partner of the Year. <sh>Nominations Sought for Doyle Awards

<bt>The Fairfax County Park Authority is accepting nominations for the 2004 Elly Doyle Park Service Awards through July 2. The annual award recognizes outstanding volunteer service by groups and individuals in support of Fairfax County parks and park programs. Individuals and organizations may be nominated. Current members of the Board of Supervisors, Park Authority Board and paid park staff are ineligible. Anyone may offer a nomination. Award recipients will be honored at a reception and volunteer recognition celebration on Oct. 29.
