Virginia Tech recently awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Leader award to Springfield resident Daniel Richardson, who is the regimental commander in the Corps of Cadets. The Department of Student Activities in the Division of Student Affairs gives the award annually. Maj. Gen. Jerry Allen, commandant of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, nominated Richardson for the award. In addition to being regimental commander from April 2003 to January 2004, Richardson served as the company commander during this spring semester.
Heather Kaye Decot of Springfield has been selected by Mary Washington College for 'Honors Admission' for the fall of 2004. Each year, Mary Washington College offers 'Honors Admission' to students who apply early and who have an outstanding high school performance record and SAT scores. Heather is the daughter of Alan and Karen Decot of Springfield and the granddaughter of Harold and Dorothy Decot of Falls Church. She is a senior at West Springfield High School.

Rebecca E. Carter of Springfield was recently inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at Furman University. To be eligible for membership in Furman's chapter, students must post a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale during one term of their freshman year. Rebecca is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Carter.
Joeanne Walker of Springfield was recently inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, a national political science honorary society, at Mary Washington College. Walker is the daughter of Joe and Ann Walker of Springfield and is a 2000 graduate of West Springfield High School.
