The City of Alexandria Employees Credit Union was awarded the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award in the $20 Million to $80 Million in Assets category. The award is sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union league and the Credit Union National Association.

The City of Alexandria Employees Credit Union was honored for its Titan Branch, a student-run credit union at T.C. Williams High School, and the Credit Union days it has held at elementary and middle schools, as well as providing education and materials to over 750 students through the "Touchdown to Savings" program.

Two Alexandria T.J. Maxx stores have expanded their accessories departments, adding more discount brand-name jewelry, luggage and handbags. The participating stores are located in South Valley Shopping Center, 7730 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, and Potomac Yard Center, 3451 Jefferson Davis Highway, Alexandria.

Alexandria Business and Professional Women, working to achieve equity for women in the professional workplace, meets on the second Tuesday of the month from September to May and on the second Monday in June and July, at 7 p.m., at the Eisenhower Ave. Holiday Inn. There is no August meeting, but on August 21 BPW will be going to Hillwood, the Majorie Merriweather Post Estate in Washington, D.C.
