Reston Man Robbed at Gunpoint

A 41-year-old Reston resident was robbed at gunpoint and beaten by a group of five assailants near North Point Village Center.

An unidentified Reston man became the victim of an unusual and violent robbery near the North Point Village Center last Saturday night.

The 41-year-old victim was walking near the shopping center at around 11 p.m. when he heard a group of four men and one woman calling out to him from behind.

The group of young people began to chase the victim, who fled toward his apartment. But the group caught up with him and demanded his wallet as they pointed a gun at him.

After stealing his wallet, one of the assailants struck the victim on the head with the butt of the gun. Another attacker also hit him on the back of the head with an unknown object. Following the beating, the attackers ran away toward North Point Village Center.

Police arrived shortly after the robbery, but could not locate the suspects.

The first suspect was described as a black male, about 16 years old, five feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt and baggy blue jeans. The second suspect was a black female about 15 years old, five feet six inches tall and 130 pounds. She was wearing a white t-shirt. The third suspect was a black male about five feet nine inches tall and about 210 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt with a black bandanna on his head.

The description of the remaining two suspects was less specific, though they were both described as black males, wearing white t-shirts and bandannas on their heads.

"It's an unusual event for that area, but it can happen anywhere, even in the best of neighborhoods," said Mary Mulrenan, a civilian public information officer with the Fairfax County Police Department.
