Police Search for Counterfeit Merchandise

The Herndon Police executed search warrants at three businesses in town, Jessica’s Boutique at 721 Monroe Street, Jessica’s Boutique at 720 Grant Street and Darhma Music at 484 Elden Street. Herndon Police, along with representatives from the Recording Industry Association of America and other law enforcement agencies, checked the locations for counterfeit CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs, along with other items relating to the production and sale of counterfeit items. More than 2,000 compact discs, 2,500 VHS tapes, and 120 digital video discs were confiscated. Also seized during the searches were: over $4,300 in cash, computer hard drives, miscellaneous records, documents, VHS players, recorders, jewelry and one loaded pistol. A misdemeanor violation is charged for up to 99 confiscated goods, and 100 and over are considered felony charges. In this case, the owners are looking at felony charges, which could range from one to five years of jail time as the maximum penalty, or a $2,500 fine. No charges have been placed and the investigation is ongoing, but the owners are looking at either jail time of one to five years or severe fines of up to $2,500 if found guilty.
