Woman Pleads Guilty to Murder

Sandrah Torquemada, 34 of North Potomac, plead guilty to the first degree murder of her aunt, Bertha Torquemada on July 20., according to a press release from the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office.

On June 24, 2002, at approximately 4:24 p.m., Jaime Roberto Torquemada called Montgomery County Police and Fire and Rescue to the residence of his sister, Bertha Torquemada on DuFief Court in North Potomac. His daughter, Sandrah Torquemada was living at the house with her aunt.

Jaime Torquemada had gone to the house earlier in the day, but his daughter would not let him in. he drove home and called the house but, no one answered.

He drove back to the house and forced the door open with a pry bar. Jaime Torquemada found his sister, Bertha unresponsive on the floor, covered with blood.

When pubic safety crews arrived, they pronounced her dead as a result of 25 stab wounds to her chest, neck and pelvic areas. Police then found Sandrah Torquemada and a large butcher knife in a locked bathroom, both with substantial amounts of blood on them.

Sandrah Torquemada was found not to be criminally responsible by Montgomery County Circuit Court judge Ann Harrington. Torquemada was indefinitely committed to the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital center. She faced a maximum sentence of life in prison.
