McLean Newcomers Welcome You

Here we go again! Orders in hand, we’re off to the DC area courtesy of the USAF. As our 13th move in 27 years, I’m an “old pro” at the move…but wait! There is a twist this time! Instead of living on base or in an area predominantly active duty military, we choose the idyllic town of McLean. Moving to a base, we have built-in friends, social activities and, more importantly, advice on where to find fun things to do, safe places for the children, and proficient service providers. Mother warned me that it would not be so easy this time. Well, Mom, thank goodness you were wrong!

Within in weeks of our move, I joined McLean Newcomers and found the camaraderie and resources to feel right at home, right away. We are a social organization for residents of McLean and its environs, and those living within the boundaries of McLean and Langley High Schools, with the purpose of creating new friendships, providing opportunities for socializing while acquainting our members with our diverse community. There are so many activities planned each month that it can fill your calendar! Antiquing to tennis, bridge and book clubs, genealogy, Golf and Gourmet Group, Moms & Kids Play and mahjongg just begins the list. It seems there is an activity for everyone and like-minded friends to share it all.

Members come from a variety of backgrounds – and you don’t have to be a newcomer to the area to join. Various occupations and professions are represented including Realtors, teachers, artists and moms. Many of the women are retired or travel frequently, adding another dimension to our discussions and activates. Mainly, everyone loves to have fun and share good times with good friends.

An excellent way to meet some of our members is at our once a month coffees. They are held at a member’s home with no reservations necessary. The group’s monthly luncheon at a local restaurant with a featured speaker is a personal favorite. You can learn more at our website http://geocities.com/mcleannewcomers/ or contact us either via e-mail at mcleannewcomers@yahoo.com or by calling Jackie at 703 790 8284. We’d love to welcome you!
