Pina coladas, hula dancers and Hawaiian food. That was what guests were treated to last Saturday, during the Second Annual Luau at Sunrise At Mount Vernon. Guests joined residents to enjoy some island cuisine and authentic Hawaiian dancers. Some members of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce also joined in on the fun this year.
Joan Miller Sutton, director of community relations, can hardly believe that two years have gone by since they opened the Mount Vernon location. Things have gone very well, and she said that they're almost always at capacity. Miller Sutton was on hand to greet guests and ensure that the evening ran smoothly.
Jody Miller, who is also a director of community relations, was serving pina coladas at the bar. She was helped out by one of the guests, Jose Constantino. Hawaiian leis were distributed to guests as they arrived, and residents and guests alike were dressed in colorful outfits.
Irving Kaufman was proud of the fact that his outfit was purchased in Hawaii, where he traveled on vacation. After everybody enjoyed their food and drink, the Hawaiian dancers started their show. Attired in several different sets of skirts and blouses, the dancers danced and performed several different Hawaiian songs on traditional instruments.
