Parking was at a premium at Bethlehem Baptist Church last Sunday evening. Members of choirs from throughout Mount Vernon, as well as their guests, were coming to attend the Ninth Annual VIC Choir Festival Celebrating the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
This combined choir event is coordinated by Ventures in Community (VIC), a consortium of faith communities and human service agencies in the Mount Vernon area. They meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m., ending with lunch together at 1 p.m. Proceeds from the free will offerings that are collected during the concert are given to United Community Ministries (UCM) and New Hope Housing & Family Services.
PARTICIPATING CHOIRS this year included Belle View Baptist Church; Bethlehem Baptist Church; Bethany Lutheran Church Trinity Handbells; Calvary Presbyterian; Ebenezer Presbyterian Church; Gaddiel Acquaah Memorial Methodist Church; Good Shepherd Catholic Church; Groveton Baptist Church; Metropolitan Washington Bahaíi Chorale; Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church; Mount Vernon Unitarian Church; Mount Vernon United Methodist Church; Rising Hope United Methodist Mission; St. Aidenís Episcopal Church; St. Jamesí Episcopal Church; St. Lukeís Episcopal Church; Washington Mills Elementary School; Wesley United Methodist Church; and Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
