MIldred Elizabeth Beall Burk, 77 of Potomac, died on Monday, Jan. 5.
Born Oct. 6, 1926 in Virginia to a railroad engineer’s family, Mrs. Burk met and married her husband, a native of Washington, D.C. when her family moved to the city. After several years in Washington, D.C., Mr. and Mrs. Burk moved to Bethesda, and then to Potomac where she was a resident for 39 of her 46 years as a Marylander.
For many years, Mrs. Burk was an active member of St. Francis Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and participated in many other parish ministries.
Remembering a life in Potomac when cows grazed along Brickyard Road and the hitching posts in the Village were actually used to hitch horses, Burk and her late husband, Paul, were active in the community trying to protect against over-development and provide green space for leisure.
Burk found her greatest joy in a partnership with her husband and as a mother to her children. In her final years, though ill, she was most often found consoling others in bringing joy and words of kindness wherever she went.
Beloved wife of the late Paul William Burk Jr. Loving mother of Martin Paul Burk, Susan Elizabeth Burk Klotz, Nancy Mildred Burk Gaffney, and William Hopkins Burk. Grandmother of Noelle Burk, Paul Burk III, Brian Gaffney, Lacie Burk, Matthew Gaffney, Eleanor Burk and Sophia Burk. Sister of Margaret Ross, Virginia Rich and Rebecca Reagan.
Funeral services were held at St Francis Episcopal Church, on Saturday, Jan. 10.
