Jeannie Marie Ahn, 22, of Reston, died on Dec. 29 from metastatic gastric cancer and was laid to rest at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax on Sat., Jan. 3.
Ahn was born in Arlington on April 29, 1981 and lived her entire life in Northern Virginia. At the time of her diagnosis, Ahn was a senior at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Ahn graduated from Glen Forest Elementary School, Glasgow Middle School and the International Baccalaureate program at Jeb Stuart High School where she was co-editor of her 1999 yearbook, played tennis for her high school team and played the piano and violin for the school’s orchestra.
An active young woman, Ahn worked as a youth camp counselor for the Reston Association during one summer, worked as a teacher’s assistant at a Reston Montessori School and volunteered for Wolf Trap’s Summer Children’s Program.
Fluent in English, Spanish and Korean, Ahn was active with the Catholic Charities Hispanic Language Assistance program. She also attended language classes at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea in the summer of 1999 and the University of Valencia in Spain during the summer of 2002.
She is survived by her mother, Theresa Lindow of Reston and her father Lark Ahn of Locust Grove, Va.; her step father, John Lindow; step brothers, Lyndle and Denton Lyndow; her grandparents, Dong Chan Kim and Ho Mook Kim; her friend, Peter Nguyen, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and teachers.
