Those entering Fort Belvoir through Pence Gate on Route 1 will have to use an alternate entrance from March 7-21. Pence will be closed for construction during that period, according Belvoir authorities.
Visitors to the base are advised to use Tully Gate off Route 1, said Terry Wicherski, operations and security specialist, Fort Belvoir. Pence Gate's closure will begin at 5 a.m., March 7. It will reopen at 5 a.m., March 21. Tully Gate will be open 24/7 during the construction period.
To accommodate traffic, the following Belvoir gates will increase their hours of operations:
*Walker Gate — Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
*Lieber Gate — Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
THERE WILL BE no change in hours at the 618/Route 1, Telegraph, or J.J. Kingman gates. All three are open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Trucks will not be allowed through Lieber or Telegraph gates, Wicherski said. Commuters must have DoD decals on their vehicles to use Lieber Gate.
