Alexandria police continue to look for a potential witness in the murder of Nancy Dunning.
Dunning, a local real estate agent and the wife of Alexandria sheriff, James Dunning, was killed in her W. Mt. Ida home on Dec. 5. She died as the result of a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Last week, police released a picture of a man who is a potential witness in the case. The picture was obtained from security cameras at the Target store at Potomac Yard. Sources close to the Dunning family say that Nancy Dunning was shopping at Target on the morning that she was murdered, which prompted police to look at security tapes.
"The detectives have received calls as a result of the release of the picture and are following leads," said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the department.
POLICE ALSO distributed the picture of the potential witness to media in Bridgeport and Fairfield, Conn., where members of Dunning's family still reside. The man has not yet been identified.
Anyone with information about the potential witness or with any other information about this case should call 703-838-4711. There is a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and/or indictment.
