Four Arrested for Larceny
<bt>Three adults and a 17-year-old, all from Herndon, were arrested Thursday, Jan. 29, by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly breaking into a car and taking about $1,709 worth of items.
Edwin Gallardo, 18, Jorge Murcia-Landaverde, 21, and Octavio Mario Morales, 20, were charged with three felony counts of possession of stolen goods, possession of burglarious tools, grand larceny and one misdemeanor count of destruction of property. The three were being held on a $2,000 bond at the Loudoun Detention Center. The 17-year-old was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, just before 11:30 p.m. deputies responded to the 140 block of North Fillmore Avenue in the Pembrooke area in Loudoun County, after receiving a call about a vehicle tampering in progress. The victim reported the suspects fled in a white Volkswagen. A few minutes later a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a car matching the description. Inside the vehicle were several car stereos, various compact discs, sunglasses and custom vehicle gauges.
<sh>Arts Council Honors
<bt>The Herndon Council for the Arts presented four awards to community members at its annual meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The 2003 award winners were: “Volunteer of the Year,” Tim Adams of the Herndon Symphony Orchestra; “Project Chair of the Year,” Harlon Reece, for the Jazz and Wine Festival; “Keeping the Arts Alive,” went to Ray Kaminsky, for the Herndon Blues Festival; and “Distinguished Business Partner of the Year,” was presented to the Worldgate Centre, Rappaport Companies.
In addition, the 2004 board was named. Returning members are: Vicky Dorman, Betsy Grein, Carolyn Day, Elma Mankin, Pat Macintyre, Grace Wolf, Kathy Lanni, Bruce Napoli, and Harlon Reece. The new members are: Jim Deuel, Chris Griffin, Francine DeFarriere Kemp, Mike O’Reilly, Karen Stacy, and Bob Statz.
