Marine Corps Sgt. Kevin R. Boyce, son of Carol A. Boyce of Burke, graduated from the U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant's Course at Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Boyce is a 1996 graduate of Robinson High School and joined the Marine Corps in March 2000.
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Firaas E. Hamed, whose wife, Alecia, is the daughter of Diann D. Williams of Burke, recently was promoted to his current rank while serving with Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Hamed was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.
Coast Guard Seaman Jeremy S. Lem, son of Sue and Philip G. Lem of Burke, graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J. During the eight-week training program, Lem completed a training curriculum consisting of classroom academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship, with a major emphasis on physical fitness, health and wellness.
