Knights Host Holiday Party

More than 500 children and parents enjoy the festivities.

The Knights of Columbus Mount Vernon Council's Children Christmas Party is back — and if the packed hall was any indication, Mount Vernon families are glad that is.

“We used to do this party a few years ago and recently decided to resurrect it,” said Mike Evans, who was helping to coordinate the show with his new wife, Claudia Evans. Decked out in a maroon dress and Santa hat, she provided the Spanish translation for the program. Evans said that they had left flyers at various elementary schools, including Groveton, Stratford Landing, Mount Vernon Woods, Woodlawn and Hybla Valley.

Paul Mehler said that more than 550 children with their parents attended the Children Christmas Party sponsored by the Knights of Columbus on Dec 11.

“Both Ronald McDonald and Santa Claus were featured which made it a fun-filled afternoon for the children. It was a huge success, and it will become an annual affair,” Mehler said.

A full schedule kept children and their parents singing Christmas music and watching a show with Ronald McDonald. Santa made a special appearance at the end and children were given treats.
