Everyone was smiles and waves when Santa Claus rode past their house in an antique fire truck on Dec. 16, the first of eight nights of riding through town.
Vienna residents were treated to the annual ritual of Santa being driven around town in the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department’s 1940s-era truck, sirens screaming and Christmas music blaring from the speakers.
The truck stops at every house where children come to the door, and firefighters hand out candy canes, courtesy of CVS. This year, the holiday visitors also provided dog biscuits for the town’s canine residents.
Riding with Santa is one of the most coveted events of the year for the firefighters, explained John Morrison of the department.
When the truck pulls down a street, both children and adults flood outside, some (adults, too) get so excited that they start dancing and jumping wildly.
“For some kids, this is going to be the first time they see Santa,” Morrison said.
