Elementary-school students from Fairfax County Public Schools have contributed handmade ornaments to the holiday tree donated by the state of Virginia for display at the U.S. Capitol. The 70-foot red spruce tree, which is located on the west lawn of the Capitol, is a gift from the state of Virginia to the nation. Some of the ornaments created by the students including students from Armstrong Elementary, will also be used on companion trees placed at other government office buildings in Washington, D.C. The tree lighting took place Thursday, Dec. 9; the tree will be lit every evening through Saturday, Jan. 1, until 11 p.m. More information about the Capitol holiday tree can be found at www.capitolholidaytree2004.org.
